Forest growth simulation
For forest growth simulation, the Virtual Forest provides an ideal basis for pre-simulation of the development of stands among varied boundary conditions. It enables, on this basis, detailed and reliable statements in context of time functionality of 4D-GIS. So, chances and risks of alternative silvicultural concepts can be calculated and visualised in approach.
Within the Virtual Forest the single tree- applied forest growth simulator SILVA, developed at the Chair of Forest Yield Science of TU Munich (Prof. Pretzsch), is used. By integration of thinning models, among other things methods for supporting tree marking are developed.
